Over 400 officials and competitors from 65 nations around the world gathered in Yeosu City of Jeon-Nam prefecture, Korea, for the 2nd Fishing World Cup held between October 21st and 25th, which has ended in a grand success. In succession to the 1st Fishing World Cup that was held in Nagasaki of Japan two years ago, the players have competed in two categories of Boat Fishing and Surf Casting. 180 players from 50 countries have entered the Boat Fishing, while 98 players from 7 nations took part in the Surf Casting. It became an unprecedented scale of international fishing tournament.

The Typhoon Maemi that struck the southern part of Korean peninsular on September 11th resulted in an inevitable postponement of the event for about 3 weeks. But the weather was clear and the conditions of the sea and the shores were nearly recovered by the time, and the 2nd Fishing World Cup started under a full support of Yeosu city and its citizens.

Mr. Jung Yong Su, representing Korea, won the championship in the Individual Surf Casting category, followed by Mr. Yuji Ikenaga from Japan who is prominent master of Fukase (Drift) Fishing in the 2nd place, and Mr. Takahiro Hara also from Japan for the 3rd.
In the Boat Fishing category, Mr. Nobukazu Minamino and Mr. Yoshinobu Hesaka from Japan stood as the Champion and the Second, followed by Mr. Patrick Drevici from France for the 3rd. Miss. Elena Volodina from Russia achieved profound 4th place among experienced male players.

The group competition was fought based on the number of players who remained through the preliminary match. In the Surf Casting category, Taiwan won the first place, followed by Japan and China, while Kazakhstan team won the first place in the Boat Fishing Category, followed by Philippines and Uruguay.

While the players were in the fierce fishing competition, there was another race having taken place, bidding for the next country to host the 3rd Fishing World Cup. It turned out that Taiwan was elected as the host for the 3rd Fishing World Cup scheduled in 2005 and New Zealand would host the 4th Event in the year 2007.
