Purpose Expert sport fishermen and fishing organization officials from all nations have shown interest in the continued holding and development of the Fishing World Cup to the level where it becomes a tournament and festival catching the imagination of the world's 500 million fishermen. Sports is itself a medium of communication with the power to bring people together across language and cultural barriers that might prove insuperable by other methods. The tournament will thus stimulate the growth of an international community of friendship, and through the resulting international interaction and cooperation-both competitive and social-intercultural understanding and goodwill between all peoples will be fostered, to the benefit of the greater cause of peace. 2.
